A 2013 article in Maclean’s entitled Why so many people-including scientists-suddenly believe in an after life, by Brian Bethune who reminds us about Colton Burpo at the age of four just about dying from a ruptured appendix relating his experience in heaven and revealing things about his family he had never been told (Heaven is Real). Also Eben Alexander’s post-religious cosmic experience (Proof of Heaven). Alexander, a Harvard-trained neurosurgeon, had an intense headache which was e. coli bacteria literally eating his brain. While in a deep coma he was given a tour of heaven. It made him an entirely different man.

The greatest gift from our loving Creator is everlasting life, a promise given to everyone. “…Therefore, all things shall be restored to their proper order, every thing to its natural frame—mortality raised to immortality, corruption to incorruption…” Alma 41:4

Scientifically we could live forever in some form because according to the law of conservation of energy, energy can neither be created nor destroyed, only transferred, energy is eternal, perhaps in a spiritual or resurrected form.

It appears that one way or the other we will have everlasting life. “And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.” Matthew 25:46

For sure it won’t be boring. Just imagine all the things you wouldn’t need if you couldn’t die.

In this physical world if a seed has proper soil, water, and nourishment, it will grow and prosper.

If not, it will wither, decay, and die because physical life is temporary and fragile.

Ecclesiastes 3:2, “A time to be born, and a time to die, a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted.

Physical human life requires there be a male and a female to get things going and nutrients to keep things going–at least as long as possible.

Genesis 1:27, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”

Physically we get 23 chromosomes from our mother and 23 chromosomes from our father in every nucleus in every cell.

Every cell in our body contains our complete genetic blueprint to reconstruct our everlasting body. The physical flesh eventually dies, but the spirit lives on possibly with a DNA record to organize its resurrected body.

John 6:63, “It is the spirit that quickeneth [lives?]; the flesh profiteth nothing [dies?]; the words that I speak unto you they are spirit, and they are life.” Each cell in our body or at least 99.999 percent of them carries the same chromosomes. Some clues to difference between our temporal and everlasting body may be in the DNA exceptions or what our DNA record doesn’t need to reconstruct our eternal resurrected body?

If we have everlasting life, we will all be a perfect age and therefore there will be no children. No need for sperm or egg cells.

Another exception is red blood cells. Because we cannot starve or die, we would not need to eat or have a fluid to deliver nutrients and oxygen to our cells and transport products away from the same cells. Body waste might be similar to antiparticle/particle annihilation, returning energy to a previous dimension. Maybe we will want to eat for pleasure. What will we eat? What if the food immediately turns into energy to return from whence it came as the ultimate eternal recycler such as a special energized fluid to replace blood?

Obviously everlasting life will not need the other exception– immune cells.

Will we be part of an everlasting family? Doctrine and Covenants 130:2, “And the same sociality which exists among us here will exist among us there, only it will be coupled with eternal glory [power?], which glory we do not now enjoy.” What if the amount of glorious power depends on our righteousness?

Will our minds provide righteous power to provide for our needs? Will we travel by thought? Will we pick our own energized wardrobe and hairdos?

Will we be happy? Doctrine and Covenants 101:36, “Wherefore, fear not even unto death, for in this world your joy is not full, but in me your joy is full.”
