C.S. Lewis once said, “If I find in myself desires which nothing this world can satisfy, the only logical explanation is that I was made for another world.”
In the same way, most mortals possess a longing for order that seems strange in a world of chaos. How could we long for something we never knew existed? Order is an eternal principle that feels like home and is part of what we knew in our pre-mortal existence. Thus I consider the longing for order that most of us experience a form of homesickness. Creation is bringing the universe into ordered existence. God organized our universe but why does it not feel very organized? Possibly because He first had to let the universe be disorganized. It takes entropy to set physical evolution into motion. Entropy is a measure of a systems disorder or uncertainty. Evolution is change. We also refer to evolution as the process in the characteristics of a species over several generations which relies on natural selection. But natural selection brings us uncertainty.
Without disorder there would’ve been no components or testing of the components for an organized universe. The physical universe is a necessary prototype for everlasting existence, a way to organize and check the obedience of all things, especially intelligences that have progressed to awareness. Perfection will need order and unity. Unity is best taught in a dimension that allows for birth, change, decision making, decay, and death. This requires entropy. We best learn unity by belonging to a family and society that cares for little ones and sick ones and those who are needy. We had to fall to rise up again with everlasting bodies.
My philosophy is the evolution of our universe from a more progressive universe began with dark energy, darkness (Genesis 1:2, Intelligences). Then God used the laws of nature and with a big bang 13.8 billion years ago, inverted some of the dark energy (Abraham 3:21, Intelligence) into dark matter (Genesis 1:6, Spirit). God then allowed the dark matter (D&C 29:32) to gradually slow allowing the faster dark matter to overlap and entangle with the slower dark matter elements, about 4.5 billion years ago for our earth to form normal matter (Genesis 1:7, Physical).
The normal matter earth formed from the spiritual dark matter prototype. God separated the dry land from the seas (Genesis 1:9-10). He organized plants (Genesis 1:11-12).
The plants needed photosynthesis of the sun and seasons (Genesis 1:15-16), then sea life formed (Genesis 1:20).
The oldest rocks found on our earth date to over 4 billion years ago, these rocks showed evidence of contact with liquid water suggesting our earth already had seas at the time (Genesis 1:10).
The Moon formed 4.48 billion years ago and 30 million years after the Solar System (Genesis 1:15-16). Fossils are dated around 3.5 billion years ago, fungi date some 2.4 billion years ago (Genesis 1:11), 2.8 billion years ago bacteria and oxygen emerged.
Life emerged from non-living chemicals. One billion years ago the first multicellular plants emerged, probably green algae. Then 900 million years ago true multicellular animals such as sponges, 530 million years ago fish and earliest vertebrates evolved in the oceans.
Around 538-251 million years ago life colonized the land, first plants, then animals (Genesis 1:24). There were land animals that continued to evolve.
200,000 years ago, Homo sapiens originated and 32,000 years ago, they first showed signs of spirituality. 11,000 years ago, Homo sapiens tool use and communication continued to improve and interpersonal relationships became more intricate. 7000 BC ideas could be exchanged quickly and passed down the generations (Genesis 2:7). The cultural evolution quickly outpaced biological evolution and history proper began in the Fertile Crescent in the Middle East.
I would suggest the spiritual dark matter prototype was the spark of life. Without spiritual dark matter the normal mass Earth couldn’t have evolved intelligent physical man so soon. The Earth’s first civilization was at Sumer in the Middle East, between 4000-3000 BC. In the prototype spiritual dark matter universe, God had prepared Adam and Eve, requiring human agency for them to make some important decisions for important work they would do when born on the Earth in 4000 BC (Genesis 2). It was the time the Earth was finally civilized. Well, somewhat more sophisticated and ready for intelligent man to be tested.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT is knowing all we know now about the physical evolution of the Earth, could we have explained it to an ancient civilization any better than Moses did as recorded in Genesis? M. Kasey
